[AWS describes](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/rethinking-access-control-for-rag-with-amazon-quick-and-amazon-bedrock/) how Amazon Quick and Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases check document permissions against authoritative sources at query time. The approach addresses access controls across enterprise knowledge sources such as SharePoint, Google Drive, and Confluence. This is my strongest enterprise development in today’s records: permission checking belongs in the answer path.
For CIOs, treat retrieval authorization as a production acceptance criterion, not a connector configuration task. Before expanding an assistant, test revoked access, transferred employees, and restricted documents. Require evidence that the system respects the source’s current permissions and fails safely when authorization cannot be verified.
[An AWS voice-concierge example](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/build-a-voice-travel-concierge-with-amazon-bedrock-agentcore-managed-knowledge-base-and-nova-sonic/) connects policy answers with backend tools and confirms each change before writing it. This is an airline example, not evidence of a dental deployment. The design pattern is worth evaluating for DSO administrative workflows: distinguish answering a question from changing a record.
For a DSO pilot, start with approved administrative information and a narrowly bounded appointment-change workflow. Require identity verification, explicit confirmation, and a staff handoff before enabling writes. Keep clinical advice outside that pilot. The executive decision should be the scope of delegated authority—not simply whether the voice experience sounds convincing.
[CISA warns](https://www.cisa.gov/news-events/ics-advisories/icsa-26-279-01) that vulnerabilities affecting Johnson Controls EasyIO FG firmware through version 2.0b52 could allow full unauthorized access to the device. The supplied advisory identifies a potential consequence; it does not establish that exploitation has occurred.
Keep device exposure on the leadership agenda alongside AI security. Ask facilities, infrastructure, and security owners to determine whether affected equipment is present, including equipment maintained by service providers. If found, review vendor mitigation guidance, assess network reachability, and assign a remediation owner and deadline. Require an explicit inventory finding rather than assuming the product is absent.
[AWS’s governance discussion](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/responsible-ai-governance-how-aws-positions-customers-to-align-with-iso-iec-420052025/) focuses on conducting and documenting AI system impact assessments under ISO/IEC 42005:2025. The useful management distinction is the system under review—not merely the model selected.
Make a documented impact assessment part of the production gate. Name the business owner, intended users, permitted data, consequential actions, human review points, and shutdown authority. Revisit the assessment when those boundaries change. For boards, request evidence that significant AI deployments have accountable owners and reviewed operating limits, rather than treating a standards reference as assurance.
[AWS reports that Qlik Answers](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/how-qlik-built-grounded-enterprise-scale-ai-with-amazon-bedrock/) uses Amazon Bedrock to provide grounded, sourced answers across structured and unstructured enterprise data. The described architecture includes multiple agents, cross-Region inference, and Bedrock Guardrails. Treat this as a vendor-described implementation, not a guarantee of accuracy for your data.
Make answer traceability a procurement and acceptance requirement. Select a small set of consequential business questions and require reviewers to reconcile each answer with its underlying records. Assign owners for conflicting definitions and stale documents. Judge the pilot on whether leaders can inspect and defend an answer—not just whether they can obtain it quickly.
[AWS describes a remediation pattern](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/automate-remediation-post-aws-devops-agent-investigation/) that keeps DevOps Agent in observe-and-report mode while a separate workflow prepares pre-validated fixes for engineer approval. A [companion business-case framework](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/beyond-hours-saved-building-the-business-case-for-agentic-automation/) evaluates agentic automation beyond time savings, including exception handling, decision quality, and maintenance economics.
Separate diagnosis, proposed action, and execution authority in your first remediation pilot. Require approval and a tested rollback path before changes reach production. Have the COO and CIO agree on measures covering resolution time, failed changes, exception workload, and ongoing support cost. Fund the operating outcome, not an isolated estimate of hours saved.
[AWS announced Claude Haiku 5.5 availability](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/introducing-claude-haiku-5-5-on-aws/) on Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS. The announcement attributes its positioning for subagents and high-volume, cost-sensitive work to Anthropic. That makes it a candidate for evaluation—not an automatic reason to add another production dependency.
Require a new model to replace an existing component or meet a clearly defined need. Benchmark representative tasks, including failures, retries, human review, and total workflow cost. Record the model version, routing rules, fallback behavior, and support owner. The leadership objective should be a manageable operating portfolio, not the largest possible model catalog.
